Choose an AI coding assistant for your workflow

A useful evaluation starts with your repository, your editor, and your review process.

Write down the job first

“Help us code faster” is too broad. Choose a concrete recurring task: understanding an unfamiliar repository, editing a small feature, or producing a test case. Define what a useful result looks like and who reviews it.

Keep your environment in the decision

List essential IDE extensions, language support, private network requirements, and repository access. A tool that looks impressive in isolation may still introduce costly friction. Start with the profiles below to compare documented integrations.

Use an evaluation worksheet

Record the task, accepted changes, incorrect changes, review time, and final checks for each trial. Use the same source revision. Do not count lines of generated code as a productivity metric; count useful, reviewed work.

Check the real monthly cost

Review subscription terms and model usage separately. Set a spending limit where available. Include onboarding and review effort in your decision. A lower sticker price can still be the wrong choice if it does not fit your team.

Make a reversible commitment

Run a small pilot before rolling out access. Document what the tool may read, which actions need approval, and how you will stop using it. Revisit the decision when your workflow or the product’s billing model changes.
